Paolo Vignolo

Paolo Vignolo is an associate professor of history at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá. His research interests include public history, cultural heritage, and memory studies, as well as the history of the conquest of the Americas (from the 14th century to the present) and the history of carnival and festive performances. For over twenty years, he has been working in the Darién region, on the border between Colombia and Panama, on participatory research projects with indigenous peasant, Afro-descendant, Guna, and Embera communities, contributing to the creation of the Santa María la Antigua del Darién Historical-Archaeological Park. He earned his doctorate from EHESS in Paris and was a visiting scholar at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard (2012–2013) and a visiting fellow at CAPAS at the University of Heidelberg (2023). He is a member of the Transformative Memory International Network at the University of British Columbia and the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics at New York University.
