Sara Funaro

Sara Funaro was born in 1976 in Florence. She holds a degree in Psychology and a specialization in Psychotherapy, and has furthered her studies in the fields of phenomenology and ethnopsychiatry. She has worked as a clinical psychotherapist and as a trainer for staff in settings that work with people who have experienced trauma, particularly in the context of migration. She is also the co-founder of a school of phenomenological-dynamic psychotherapy. Her career began in the social sector, encompassing volunteer work, youth services, mental health, and addiction treatment. She lived and worked in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, alongside street children and vulnerable communities. Inspired by her grandfather, Piero Bargellini, she chose to dedicate herself to politics. Since 2014, she has served alongside Dario Nardella in city administration, with responsibilities for welfare, healthcare, equal opportunity, immigration, and education. Her contributions have helped position the city among the national leaders in service quality. In 2024, she was elected mayor of the city of Florence.
