Qumi is a political movement born from the coming together of Arab and Palestinian women in the diaspora, united in Italy by a common goal: the social and political liberation of their peoples. We are activists with diverse backgrounds, but with a single vision: that of a struggle that is never isolated, but deeply intertwined with that of all peoples resisting systemic violence, whether gender-based, sexual, or colonial.
At the heart of our commitment lies the urgency of the Palestinian cause. We view resistance against Zionist colonial oppression and dispossession as the cornerstone of a broader challenge to every power structure that perpetuates inequality. This violence not only devastates daily life in the Arab region, but also reverberates within our communities in Italy, fueling patterns of exclusion and discrimination that we must dismantle.
Ours is a journey of profound decolonization, one that does not stop at breaking down physical barriers but also addresses thought and culture. We strongly oppose the normalization of oppression, even within feminist spaces where hegemonic or white-centric dynamics all too often persist.
Why do we do this?
Because we believe that the autonomy and dignity of Arab and Palestinian women are the driving force needed to liberate everyone. Our work draws inspiration from the traditions of resistance among Black, Indigenous, and Global South communities, advancing a Palestinian feminism that is, first and foremost, a philosophy of life rooted in justice and solidarity.
Qumi is a constant call to action and collective awareness. It embodies the courage to affirm that our strength lies in unity and determination.
Stand up, because there is no freedom without justice.
